3D Scanners
This page includes information related to semi-automated 3D scanner prototypes I am working on or have built.
Work is ongoing to properly document the build process so far including plans, a bill of materials (BOM) listing the hardware used in the project, as well as a general build guide in the future.
Prototype 1
This model was adapted from the revolutionscan ScanRig3D v0.9 model. The github repository for the original project can be accessed here.
The following modifications have been made to the original design:
Increased overall build size
Adapted 3D printed part designs to ensure proper fit and alignment
Increased structural support
Added alternative guides for lead screws
Adapted turntable mount to be used with a larger turntable
Altered G-code instructions used to program the scanner
Added a LCD interface to allow the system to be used while disconnected from a computer
Added a DIY shutter release using an optocoupler to interface the camera with the scanner
Replaced original LED lighting system with Godox AD200 lights
Added brackets and mounts for the AD200 lights
Added additional cable management pieces
This prototype is fully functional, completing 100+ scans, but there are still some general quirks in the system. It is still very much an experimental DIY build at this point, so set expectations accordingly.
Prototype 2 (upcoming)
The second prototype will aim to be more portable than the initial prototype build. The motion control interface will also be upgraded to be more user friendly.
